  • Idea of La MICA Biological Station was born

  • Project plans and objectives introduced and initially supported by Panamanian environmental
    authorities.
February 2008
  • Began developing partnerships with organizations
Summer 2008        
  • Conversations with local people about the benefits of La MICA.
  • Began preliminary data collection for La MICA

Spring 2009
  • FUND-RAISING!
  • Acquired private plot of  land for La MICA Biological Station
  • Training courses for permanent staff of La MICA (data collection, basic English, etc.)
  • Apply for grants
Summer 2009        
  • FUND-RAISING!
  • Construction of the cabin (pictures below) and bathhouse
  • Began posting species lists
  • Began collecting weather data
Fall 2009
  • Built the student dormitory
  • Accepted our first guests
Winter 2010
  • FUND RAISING!
  • Build classroom / laboratory
  • Purchase adjacent land to La MICA Biological Station to allow for expansion and for conservation
    purposes
  • Begin RIO Program for students and recent graduates
January 2010
  • Welcomed first researchers visiting in association with La MICA
  • Welcomed first participant of the RIO program
16 February 2010
  • Welcome history and biology undergraduate students from Truman State University for their 7
    week visit
Spring 2010        
  • Comprehensive studies of the local flora and fauna in several natural areas
  • Land acquisition for the purposes of conservation
  • Expansion of existing facilities as funds allow
Summer 2010
  • Develop courses, workshops, and seminars to be presented at La MICA.
  • Continue building relationships with colleges, universities, organizations, and companies from
    around the world.
